DGI Trading Expands Workshop Team to Support Ongoing Growth

28/04/2026

DGI Trading continues to strengthen its workshop capability with the addition of Sam Welch, joining the team as a boilermaker. His appointment supports ongoing growth across the business and reinforces DGI’s commitment to building a skilled, adaptable workforce aligned with the demands of the mining and heavy equipment sectors.

Sam brings a background in structural fabrication, having completed his trade locally. His experience working in a fabrication shop focused on structural work has provided a strong foundation in core trade skills, which he is now applying in a different environment.

After several years in structural work, Sam was looking for a change and an opportunity to work more closely with machinery. The move into DGI Trading has allowed him to transition into the heavy equipment space, where the scope of work and exposure to large scale mining assets presents a different level of complexity and variety.

While he had some exposure to machinery through farm work, moving into mine spec equipment from Caterpillar, Liebherr, and Hitachi has been a step up. With family already working in mining and civil, the transition has been straightforward and he has settled into working with DGI’s product range quickly.

One of the key drivers behind the move was the opportunity to gain exposure to the global side of the business. DGI Trading’s reach across international markets provides insight into how components are sourced, refurbished, and supplied at scale. For Sam, this has added another layer to the role beyond the day to day workshop work.

Despite being early in his time with the business, having joined around six weeks ago, Sam has integrated quickly into the team. He describes the culture as supportive, with experienced tradespeople willing to help, and a strong focus on safety across the workshop.

The addition of Sam reflects DGI Trading’s broader approach to growth. By bringing in tradespeople with solid foundations and giving them exposure to high value machinery and global operations, the business continues to build depth in its workshop while supporting local employment in the Macleay region.

As demand across the sector continues to evolve, investing in people remains a key part of how DGI Trading delivers consistent, reliable solutions for its customers.
